Slide Puzzle

Solve the classic sliding tile puzzle! Arrange numbered tiles in order by clicking or dragging them into the empty space. Beat the clock across three grid sizes.

How to Play:
A grid of numbered tiles is scattered out of order with one empty space. Click or drag tiles adjacent to the empty space to slide them into position. Your goal is to arrange all tiles in sequential numerical order β€” 1, 2, 3, and so on, with the empty space in the bottom-right corner.

Objective:
Arrange all numbered tiles in order from 1 to N before the timer runs out.

Controls:
- Desktop: Click on a tile adjacent to the empty space to slide it β€” or drag a tile toward the empty space to slide it (dragging can slide multiple tiles in one motion)
- Mobile / Tablet: Tap a tile to slide it, or drag it toward the empty space

Scoring:
- Lower move count is better β€” the fewer slides you use, the higher your performance
- Completing the puzzle faster with fewer moves earns a better result
- High score (fewest moves) is tracked per difficulty level

Winning:
- Win: Arrange all tiles in numerical order (1, 2, 3... with the last space empty) before time expires
- Lose: The timer reaches zero with tiles still out of order β€” game over

Difficulty Levels:
- Easy: 3Γ—3 grid with 8 tiles and a 5-minute timer β€” great for beginners learning the mechanics
- Medium: 4Γ—4 grid with 15 tiles and a 3-minute timer β€” the classic sliding puzzle challenge
- Hard: 4Γ—4 grid with 15 tiles and just 2 minutes β€” intense timed puzzle action

Game Features:
- Two control methods β€” click to slide individual tiles or drag for faster multi-tile moves
- Multiple grid sizes β€” 3Γ—3 on Easy and 4Γ—4 on Medium/Hard
- Shuffled puzzles β€” every game starts with a properly shuffled, solvable configuration
- Move counter β€” tracks how many slides you have made
- Timed challenge β€” adds urgency and excitement
- Touch-optimized β€” works smoothly on both desktop and mobile devices
- Responsive canvas β€” adapts to any screen size
- Win detection β€” automatically recognizes when the puzzle is solved

Pro Tips:
- Solve row by row β€” complete the first row first, then the second, working toward the bottom-right corner
- Don't break solved rows β€” once a row is in order, avoid sliding those tiles out of place unless necessary
- Use drag for efficiency β€” dragging a tile can slide multiple tiles at once, saving moves compared to clicking
- Plan ahead on 4Γ—4 β€” the 15-tile puzzle requires thinking several moves ahead to avoid dead ends
- Stay calm under pressure β€” on Hard mode the 2-minute timer flies by, so practice makes perfect
